A little history of the ARE Silverstone wheel.

Back in 1962 American Racing Equipment® (ARE) designed a new eight spoke wheel for the North American sports car market.  They called it the Silverstone after the famous race track in the UK.

Made from magnesium alloy the Silverstone wheel was made famous in 1964 when Triumph's competition manager Kas Kastner used them on the Shell 4000 Rally factory rally TR4 http://www.shell-4000-rally.org/4000_web/1964/pdf/1964_TSOA.pdf

The Silverstone was used on many  racing Triumphs back in the day, including those driven by Group 44. Vintage photo here: http://www.laprecord.com/aboutus/Index.htm  The wheel was also offered by the factory as an option for the Triumph TR:

They were also fitted to other vintage sports cars such as Alfa, Datsun, MGB, Sunbeam Tiger, et al.

The original factory rally TR4 now owned by Revington TR still has original Silverstone wheels.  Revell® manufactured a model of one of the rally TR4's:

Production was eventually phased out in 1972.   Today originals are very rare & you will need more than a little luck finding one that is 15x6!

Now the elegance of the original design lives on with the introduction of the all new Silverstone II. Made from light weight aluminum alloy with contemporary engineering it will be sure to enhance your vintage car's lines...wheels make the car.
